The month of August is debuting a lot of great new movies that we can’t wait to see on the big screen. Coming off of a huge month of film releases in July, including blockbusters like Spider-Man: Far From Home and The Lion King, August looks to be a calmer month here at Galaxy Theatres. However, we’re still expecting many of these upcoming films to rise up and captivate audiences with their unique storylines and cinematic excellence.

The first film to release in August is Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw on Friday, August 2. As a spinoff of The Fate of the Furious, this film focuses on US Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson, as he forms an unlikely alliance with Decker Shaw, played by Jason Statham. The duo must partner up to defeat what Johnson called, “The Baddest Bad Guy the Fast & Furious franchise has ever had.” Who will be playing this iconic villain? We can’t wait for you to see Idris Elba take on this criminal role this weekend!

The second weekend in August is offering a number of expectedly successful films. All featuring different genres that vary from drama to horror to comedy, you’ll likely be catching a double feature or visiting one of our 15 locations multiple times over the weekend when these films release. The Art of Racing in the Rain is narrated from a dog’s point of view, voiced by Kevin Costner, and follows Denny Swift, a Formula One race car driver, played by Milo Ventimiglia. Based on the novel by Garth Stein, we can’t wait to experience the bond between Swift and his four-legged best friend.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a thriller/horror that makes the spooky Autumn season feel closer than it looks. When a group of unsuspecting teens stumble upon a haunted mansion, they learn the horrible secrets of a young girl’s previous tortured life. Let us know how you handle this horror film!

Dora and the Lost City of Gold has us recall the youthful adventures we used to go on with Dora as kids. This new film follows Dora on her greatest adventure yet – High School. With an all-star cast featuring Isabela Moner, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, Eugenio Derbez, and Danny Trejo, we can’t wait for this adventure to begin on August 9.

AUGUST 14-16

In mid-August, another bunch of films are debuting that are sure to thrill! The Angry Birds Movie 2 is a comedy that follows our favorite fearsome birds as they unite with their former foes to protect their paradise from a common threat. Leading the cast is Jason Sudeikas, Peter Dinklage, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Awkwafina, and so many more celebs that will have us laughing up a storm on August 14.

What’s summer without a good shark tale? 47 Meters Down: Uncaged follows four teens who dive down to a ruined underwater world, only to find out they’re not alone in the caves. Say hello to the deadliest shark species swimming to Galaxy Theatres on August 16.

Good Boys is a comedy produced by Seth Rogan, so common themes such as friendship, morality, and substance abuse may be heavily prevalent come August 16. Although the film stars three young actors, Jacob Tremblay, Brady Noon, and Keith L. Williams, this comedy is not as innocent as it looks. Marketing around this film pokes fun at the restrictions placed on the young actors as not even being able to see their own movie. This R-rated comedy is waiting for you this month!

Galaxy Theatres is serving up the latest and greatest in film releases and there are so many more to come as well! Keep an eye on our website for movie releases, ticket announcements, and more opportunities to get involved at the theatre.
